Simon Halbig 1469

14 1/2"

Original

$4,500.

Grodnertal Sisters

8" — Sold Separately or Together

Price: $795 Each

Here come the 1920’s, the war is over, music is jazzy, corsets are out of style, hems have come up, and it’s time to begin a new era.  As dolls reflect history, attitudes and fashion, so does this sleek Simon Halbig marked 1469, often call the “flapper”.  She has blue glass sleep eyes, a closed mouth with finely shaped lips, pale bisque and gently rouged cheeks, pierced ears and her original loosely coiffed, dark blond mohair wig.

What a fun couple of Grodnertal girls we have from a collection in Provence, in their original, complementary country attire. They are each approximately 8” tall, all of carved wood, and are jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, with tiny carved feet that are their painted slippers.

Her shapely, but slim composition body is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, and offers many dance poses!  At one time, both of her index fingers were repaired and are crooked.  She wears her original party dress, adorned with shimmering trims, her original undergarments, knee high thick stockings, and black velvet, heeled pumps.  Around her neck is a doubled strand of tiny pearls and around her head, she sports a single, black velvet band to accent her extremely lovely face!

13" Early Kestner

$2,275.    ON LAYAWAY

Having so much resemblance to a French bebe in proportion and styling, this very early Kestner child is a testament to the fine quality and design talent of the JD Kestner firm.  Her pale, rounded face with rich, blue glass eyes, daintily formed closed mouth with dark accent line between the lips, soft, multi-stroke feathered brows and lush lashes, combine together to render a very “Steiner bebe” look.  Adding to her French persona is her chunky, French-type Kestner composition body with loose balls at the elbows and knees.

And a high quality body it is!  She has an abundant, blond mohair wig with curls resting around her shoulders and to complete her Parisian style is an antique, polished cotton mariners outfit that consists of a softly pleated skirt with two rows of cream ribbon around the hem, a matching long blouse with a sailor’s collar and sleeves having the same decoration, but with a single stripe, then a multi-ribbon striped insert at her neck inside the open collar.  Cream leather French-type shoes and stockings and a tightly woven beret with red yarn pompom on top complete her look.

9"

Winter Theme

$595.

Perfect as a Winter Holiday decoration is this joyful, German bisque shoulder head candy container with blue glass eyes, an open mouth with teeth, original blond, tightly curled mohair wig, and composition arms with highly detailed hands.  Her torso is cardboard as is it part of the long, cylindrical candy container that hides under her costume. It slides open easily and is in great condition.

Her costume of ivory, textured cotton is a floor length coat, decorated with snowy, bundled cotton, around the hem, up the front, around her collar and crowning the front edge of her matching bonnet.  The cotton has stained due to moisture over the years.  Perched on her bonnet and in her right hand are some tiny, faux red berries.

Gibson Girl

The Kestner Gibson Girl represented a shift in women’s roles in society, which can be easily seen by her upturned, confident look and stance. It was the early 1900s, and in addition to the importance of being able to vote in elections, a woman could wear fashion that didn’t painfully cinch in the waist or crowd the elevator with a cumbersome bustle. The celebration of this new attitude was captured by the Kestner firm by this bisque mold, the 172, with her brown glass sleep eyes, original blond mohair Gibson styled wig, pensive brows, elongated, slim nose, pursed lips, and raised chin on a finely molded shoulder plate.

Additionally, her lower arms are bisque and femininely posed, with one hand featuring a restoration to the index finger, and the other hand having a repaired thumb. The high-quality, stuffed leather body has the fine Kestner engineering with riveted joints and ease of articulation. She wears a seaside costume made of vintage fabrics, consisting of capri-type pants and a front-button jacket top with short sleeves, accompanied by a sash around the waist. In addition, she has a white cotton swimming cap to keep her hair dry in the morning surf and a hooded beach cape to wear after swimming. So darling are her Summertime espadrilles to wear on the sand and onto the boardwalk, and a basket of real seashells to show off to her lunchtime friends.
