Vintage Mattel Barbie #2

with TM Box

TM #2 Stand and Extras

Rarer than the Number 1 Barbie, the Number 2 offers us the continuation of the legendary doll that became the fashion doll for the mid-century generation, but also an interesting study of the one change that made her the next big thing.

Everything else remained the same…her exotic eye shape with white irises, her arched brows, neat ponytail hairdo with short bangs, solid rubber arms and legs, zebra stripe original bathing suit and high heeled slip on sandals.

That change being the removal of the metal lined holes under her feet and the two metal prongs removed from the circular plastic stand. To that stand was added a small hole at the rear edge to accommodate the new metal rod that would be her support system.

Her TM Blond box is is good condition with some overall inside discoloration, and it is missing the cardboard inner neck support piece. Also with her comes her early pamphlet, her gold tone hoop earrings and her sunglasses.

While it is special to have a Schoenhut doll with rare carved hair, the satisfaction is magnified when an example like this comes along. Not only is her blond painted hair carved, but she has a carved pink bow on the side, a smile with carved teeth, original paint and excellent condition, she is wearing her factory clothing and her original Schoehnut shoes with grommets to accommodate placing her on her original, metal pegged Schoenhut stand!

Along the way, she has earned a First Place Blue Ribbon and she even wears a Schoenhut button on her chest. From the factory in Philadelphia PA in the early 1900’s. Carved Hair, carved smile, carved hair bow, original paint, original shoes, original stand and original clothes, all tied up with a Blue Ribbon!
