Adorable when dressed as a girl as well, the Kammer and Reinhardt 115A is one of the most popular character molds produced by the company. This particular example features brown glass sleep eyes, light peachy bisque, an antique medium-brown mohair wig, and a closed mouth with a molded space between the lips. She has a fully jointed K*R composition and wood slant-hip toddler body.
The body finish is even, original, and in exceptionally clean condition. She is playfully dressed in her antique, bouncy blue-and-white striped cotton dress with a pinafore-style bodice. She also wears antique undergarments, shoes, and socks that feature a faint blue border. Shall we call her Phillippa instead of Phillip?

The brown bisque of this lovely Simon Halbig 1358 character girl is a warm, soothing mocha tone. She has rich brown glass sleep eyes and an open mouth with full, molded lips and four upper teeth. This remarkable character doll was produced in varying shades of darker skin tones, each giving the doll a distinct and captivating presence. Her original wig is black, curly mohair.

Her fully jointed composition body is well-matched to her bisque head, finished in a harmonious medium brown. Her mariner-inspired frock, made of polished navy-royal linen, features a pleated skirt, lace trim, and a multicolored ruched fabric insert on the front bodice. Beneath her skirt is a sewn-in, starched organdy pleated slip with lace trim. The dress is in excellent condition, and the fine workmanship on the inside confirms that it dates from her original period of manufacture.

Simon Halbig provided many examples of cultural and worldly education in the form of ethnic dolls from many lands. Special attention was given to the Orient, as evident in the mold 1129 child doll, which depicts an Asian girl with distinctly Eastern features. She has brown glass sleep eyes in her slanted eye cuts, pierced ears, an open mouth with teeth, and her original black mohair wig.

The bisque is of a light golden or olive tone, which coordinates with the similar paint tone on the composition body. The body has some issues, as the upper arms are a different tone and are likely to be replaced, and much of the legs have been repainted. (She priced to reflect this irregularity.) Her Japanese, long-wing-sleeve kimono of red print cotton is antique, and it even has a stiffened, coordinating two-piece sash that ties securely around the waist. A simple but quite impressive garment!
