Every fashion doll must love to acquire and new chapeau, and of course its own hatbox in which to store it. This antique box is in almost new condition, as is the hat, and it is a deep crimson, paper covered oval, and on the lid is written “Aux Elegantes”. The label on one side of the lid says “Mode de Paris”, and the other side, “Made in Paris”. The braided ribbon trimmed, tan wool hat is a good size for a medium size fashion, with the box being 4 ½” long and 1 ½” tall.

This darling antique sheep is full of surprise, or at least he can be, due to the fact that he is a candy container with removable head. The opening is cleverly hidden at his neck and of course his head can be tilted in any direction. He has a paper mache molded and painted face with some crazing, glass eyes and fleecy, mohair ears, just like what continues down his chubby, paper mache body, to the tail and half way down the legs. The lower legs are carved wood and painted white with black hooves, with one of them having been reglued at the hip. Over his back is secured his original, red wool blanket that is tied under the belly. 7″ Long, 6″ Tall.

Traveling should never get in the way of writing, creating, or corresponding with those dear to us. In fact, it’s the perfect time to journal and communicate! This intricately woven straw case holds several necessary desk items, including a red leather letter/stationery box, an inkwell mounted on a carved bone base, a metal-tipped pen, a leather-bound paper pad, a letter opener, and a wax seal stamp with a bone handle. An additional metal-tipped tool with a carved handle is also included. Under the lid, crossed ribbons almost cover the original label, and they hold the flat items in place while the rest can be stored in the case’s cavity.

A musical instrument always enhances the right display, and this small antique French harp is a perfect example. The classical piece is made of gold-painted, carved wood, mounted on a velvet-covered wooden base. The strings are made of wire. There is a small area of gold paint loss on one inner side of the harp at mid-height.

This highly detailed item was probably the presentation box for a treasure or fancy sweet, and it now serves as a perfect accessory for a lucky fashion doll. The outside is covered in finely woven wood or straw, while the inside is lined with white textured cardboard, adorned with lace doily trim around the inner edges. The hardware is metal, and the handles are made of fine cord.

Although lovingly played with, this antique box retains its original set of Victorian-era wooden block puzzles, each with six sides, each featuring a different illustration to solve and arrange. The theme is children at play, and there are six puzzles in total. While the six-sided blocks with paper illustrations are in good condition, the box itself has lost some of the wood framing that guides the sliding lid, and two of the blocks have holes punched through just one side of the image.
The sliding lid can still be put into place with slight maneuvering. The underside of the wood lid is covered in the original light purple paper, as is the underside of the storage box. There is some moisture staining on the paper at the bottom of the box. The entire piece measures 13 ½” x 10″ x 2 ½”.

Contained safely in its original paper-covered cardboard container with gold edging is this 7″ French fashion parasol, perfect for dolls between 14″ and 18″. The silk color is a warm, chocolate brown, and the frame is metal, with each spoke tipped with bone. The handle of the parasol is made of bone, and the metal shaft extends past the hood as a tip, with a metal hoop at the top. The bottom of the container box is missing, and there is wear to the edges of the lid, but the box is in strong condition overall. The original hood has some fading, though there are no holes or melting, and the spokes remain strong.

In that luscious green we associate with Huret accessories, here is an antique oval French fashion box. Made of white cardboard covered in garden green paper with gold edging, it bears its original paper label from a Paris establishment called “Judith Barbier.” The original green ribbon handle remains, as does some of the original tissue, though it is now discolored.

What we look for when accessorizing our fine early fashions are smaller (7 ½”) sized French parasols, preferably made of silk with a bone handle and finial, and trimmed all around with soft French lace. This parasol, the perfect size for an 18″ French fashion, features its original dark royal blue silk cover, with a highlighted pattern woven through the fabric. One of the metal spokes is broken, causing a structural irregularity, but this can be easily camouflaged with the correct posing, as shown in the photos.
