Alt, Beck and Gottschalk Fashion Lady
$1,450. |
 |
 |
Made in Germany by the firm of Alt, Beck and
Gottschalk comes a young fashion lady (15 1/2") with a grown up sweetness
all her own. Her girlish, round bisque head has blue glass eyes, a
closed mouth, a very fair complexion with soft shading and decoration, and
antique blond mohair wig in a full, curly style and pierced ears.
She has a swivel neck on a bisque shoulder plate and her all leather body
is gusseted at the elbows (patched to reinforce), hips and knees. |

Her camisole seems to want to stay on her as it may have been on there from
the start, so photos of the body are not completely thorough, however the
upper torso is in fine shape. Her silk and lace gown is quite a
remarkable creation with a lush layer of lace ruffles and gathers on the
bodice and the front skirt overlay, and an ecru silk skirt with a
flowing train following her. Topped off with a colorful, antique
chapeau of purple velvet, pink and green silk ribbon and some floral
accents. |

Special Character Series
ON LAYAWAY |
 |
 |
Uniquely
sculpted with an elegant, character molding, we have here a rare, Jumeau
deluxe fashion doll, in a large, exhibition size.
The Exhibition fashions, circa 1880, usually had ethnic features,
dressed in foreign or exotic costumes, and would travel to and from
exhibitions and fairs all over Europe for display and education.
The costume on this beautiful lady is not original, but made with
antique silk fabric and trim, so her original presentation is not known,
except for the elaborate up-do, original wig that crowns her finely
detailed face, sultry almond eyes, strong feathered brows and eyelashes,
long, aquiline nose, high cheekbones, pierced ears, and for her,
very rare, open rose- colored lips with teeth showing.
The very first of these new innovative series of portrait fashions was not
ethnic and much like this fine example, except for the open mouth. .

Her richly colored silk walking suit, although faded in areas, is from her
period and has opulent layers of ruffles and elongated flounces, adding a
special drama to her ensemble. This beautiful green, which is said
to have been stained by using arsenic dye, is complimented by
appearing in the silk plaid trim on her antique chapeau.
Undergarments are all antique as are her leather, button-up fashion
boots. |
